Gay Pride 2006 - Party, politics… or both ?

In 1969 members of the Gay community of New York were involved in a series of riots when they were no longer willing to accept the harassments of the police and stood up for their rights. A year later the first Gay Pride Parade took place when a group of demonstrators marched through the city in remembrance of the riots. Since then a lot of things have changed and today Gay Pride Parades have become an integral fixture in the event calendar of a lot of cities.

In 2006 Gay Pride Parades are no longer only political demonstrations, but also big parties. But is the fight for equality really over yet? Or are there many more battles to be fought before the war for equality has been won? What are the reasons for people to take part in the parades? Politics, party…or both?

To answer this and other questions the Online Opinion Portal demandi has started a great Gay Pride 2006 survey.
